  • A 1.5 inch diameter pom pom craft maker
  • Tapestry/yarn needle for weaving in loose ends
  • Scissors

Instructions

With Red, ch4, then ss in 1st ch made to create a ring.

Rnd1: Ch3, dc11 into the ring, ending ss into top of 3ch to close this rnd.

Rnd2: Ch3, dc1 into the same sp as 1st ch made, dc2 in next dc and in each around for a total of 24dc this rnd, ending ss into top of 3ch to close this rnd. By now you will begin to see your circle starting to form a cup shape – this is good.

Rnd3: Ch1, sc1 into next dc and into each around for 24 total sc this rnd, on 24th sc pull your white yarn through the final pull-through-step of your sc stitch to switch colors, leave the red yarn dangling down the backside to pick up later.

Rnd4: With white yarn only sc1 into the next red sc and in each around for a total of 24 white sc, on 24th sc pull your red yarn through the final pull-through-step of your sc stitch to switch colors, leave the white yarn dangling down the backside to pick up later.

Rnd5: With red yarn only sc1 into the next white sc and in each around for a total of 24 red sc, on 24th sc pull your white yarn through the final pull-through-step of your sc stitch to switch colors, leave the red yarn dangling down the backside to pick up later.

Rnds 6- 43: Rep rounds 4 and 5 to continue the red/white spiral. After your 43rd round, tie off.

Use a tapestry/yarn needle to weave in your loose ends.

Turn your wine cozy right side out so that the “pretty side” is facing out.

Drawstring:

  1. Ch 30 holding two strands (red/white) at the same time, then tie off. Leave a few inches of tails at each end.
  2. Measuring at about the 24th stripes from the bottom of your wine cozy, use your crochet hook to begin weaving your new chain through that stripe 4 stitches apart to create a drawstring that can be cinched around the wine bottle.
  3. Use your pom pom maker to craft two 1.5 inch diameter pom poms in your choice of color, I chose green, to attach to the ends of your drawstring.
  4. Finally, draw up your pom poms to the front of your bottle so that your drawstring makes a loop at the back for carrying (see photo for visual).
  5. Roll down the neck of the wine cozy like a turtleneck.
